Belfast Cricket Academy
Dear Parents / Coaches
The Academy has been running in Dublin for the last 3 years with great success and we are delighted to announce that we are coming to Belfast.
On the back of the success we had in Dublin we are now ready to run the same programme around the greater Belfast area and it will be the Belfast Cricket Academy.
Our programme headed by Irish International players Reinhardt Strydom, Albert van der Merwe and Trent Johnston and a handpicked panel of coaches will deliver a 6 week pre-season programme, running from January till the end of February.
Our mission is to create a fun and creative learning environment whereby each player is given an opportunity to make the most of their abilities and help increase confidence and concentration and prepare them for the forthcoming season at their various clubs. Our sessions are carefully developed and are skill based, focused on developing technique and various games are incorporated to develop tactical awareness.
The Academy caters for all level of cricketers and ranges from ages 6-17 year old boys and girls. Our Belfast Cricket Academy website are currently under maintenance, so see www.belfastcricket.com to find out more on what we are about.

Fancy being in the middle?
A Level One Training Programme has been arranged for January/February/March for all those who are interested in becoming Umpires and adding to the ranks of NIACUS.
As many of you know numbers of active umpires have decreased dramatically over the past few seasons and this is placing increasing strain on tyhe NIACUS Appointments Secretary as he seeks to accommodate a growth in the number of competitions and commitments at national and international level for Umpires.
We are reaching a point where clubs may have to compete without an official umpire and this is not a situation that as an Association NIACUS would like to see. There has been much publicity about NIACUS’s plight over recent times and so NIACUS would appeal to all clubs and interested parties to consider attending what is an excellent training programme.
The NIACUS Training Team lead by Keith Smith will provide you with a unique insight into the game and provide you with first class training. Cost for the programme including an ACO Training Pack and Membership of ACO for one year is £40. The course will take place at the St Johns Ambulance Training Building at Knockbracken Healthcare Park and commences on 29th January 2013 at 7pm and will last up to eight weeks.
Anyone interested in attending the training should contact Jonathan Lyttle or any member of the NIACUS Executive Committee by Friday 18th January 2013. NIACUS would encourage clubs to take the lead and demonstrate that they are keen to invest in the local game by supporting Umpiring and committing to the overall future of the NCU/Cricket Ireland.
It is hoped that a weekend course for Level 1a will take place sometime during March and I will keep you updated on details.

Name the new team
As part of CricketIreland’s ongoing drive to work at a higher level this season there is the introduction of limited overs Inter provincial matches once again. As given to the County teams in England each of these teams will be known by their own nickname. The NCU is running a competition to allow local cricketers to come up with the name for the new team. Entrants should email their suggestions to david.morton-ncu@hotmail.co.uk and there will be a cricket related prize for the winner.

Cup Draws
All three teams now know who they will face in the respective cup competitions this season.
In the Ulster Bank Challenge Cup the 1st XI find themselves drawn away in the second round on the 25th May to the winner of Laurelvale and Cliftonvillle after receiving a bye through the first round.
In the Lagan Valley Steels 2020 Trophy the 1st XI also find themselves with a bye through the first round, and will host Laurelvale in the 2nd round, with a June date tbc.
The 25th May also sees the 2nd XI in the first round of the Intermediate Cup, where they will play host to Ballymena 2nds.
The 3rd XI face a visit to Civil Service VI in the second round of the Minor Qualifying Cup on the 8th June.
