Junior Winter Indoor Coaching
We are keen to continue the development of our young players by offering a 10 week winter indoor coaching course for 8 to 15 years olds. The course will commence on Monday 10 February 2014 and run every Monday for 10 weeks until Monday 21 April. It will be held at Dromore Community Centre between 6.45pm and 8.15 pm each week. The cost for the full 10 weeks is just £10.
The course is designed for those who want to improve their game and will focus on co-ordination, balance and timing for batting while also developing the basic batting strokes. We will also work on basic fielding skills. All practices/drills will take place with tennis or soft balls.
We only have 16 places available which will be allocated on a “first come first serve” basis. Should you wish to enrol your child for the course, please download the attached reply slip at the bottom of this post, then print, complete, sign and return to Bruce Topping with the appropriate payment as soon as possible. Cheques should be made payable to Donaghcloney Cricket Club.

So after much hype and talk about the Challenge Cup semi final between Waringstown and Donaghcloney the day finally arrived and with it the sunshine. You have to go back more than 20 years to find the last time Donaghcloney reached the Senior Cup Semi Final in the days of David Gilliland, George Martin, Paul Lyttle, David Carson and alike. Donaghcloney lost that day and while Donaghcloney were the massive underdogs against their noisy neighbours Waringstown everyone involved that just maybe there could be an upset in the making.
The Factory Ground looked magnificent and much credit must go to the ground staff with special mention to Stephen Hanna, Jim Warren, Raymie Matthews, Dessie Martin, Philip Derby and Colin Derby who all have worked tirelessly throughout the year to keep the pitch in such good order. With the sunshine came the crowds and it was lovely to see so many folk down at the ground, making the most of the day.
The toss was won by Waringstown skipper Kyle McCallan and he elected to bat. Things didn’t go to plan with seasoned campaigner Stephen Hanna taking 2 early wickets trapping John Hall LBW and Kyle McCallan playing on. Mansingh joined the party and dismissed Lee Nelson caught behind and the visitors were 48-3 and under a little pressure. Waringstown pro Obus Pinear looked in great touch and settled his side until Timmy McClure had him caught at backward point for an impressive 45. Enter David Dawson who with a faultless 77 from 76 balls took the game away from Donaghcloney. Two massive sixes over the deep mid wicket boundary showed he was a man in form and with a quick fire 52 of just 35 balls from Johny Bushe Waringstown finished on 299 from the allotted 50 overs.
Donaghcloney first XI played Carrickfergus on Friday 5th July 2013. Although they lost by 52 runs in a game where some dropped catches could have turned the game on its head, it was a special day in the clubs history. The reason being that Naomi Matthews became the first female to play for the first XI at Donaghcloney. At 16 years of age this is a great achievement. Naomi was part of the Under 15 side last year and has been a regular in the 2nd and 3rd XI where she has taken a hat-trick this year. She is also currently a member of the NCU ladies development squad. Here’s hoping she continues to improve as a cricketer and become a regular in the senior side.
Junior Summer Scheme 2013
A junior cricket summer scheme will be run throughout July at Donaghcloney Cricket club. It will run Monday and Wednesday morning from 10am to 12.30pm for the under 11’s and Tuesday and Friday morning from 10am to 12.30pm for Under 15’s. 
The cost is £2 per session and Mansing along with some other members will be there doing the caching. Thursday night coaching practice for all the juniors will remain unchanged.
Junior Registration Evening
This year the club will be holding a registration evening to allow junior cricketers to be registered a week before practice starts. This year this will be held on Thursday 18th April from 7-8.30 pm at the pavilion. This will give parents a chance to meet and chat with some of the youth coaches for this season and light refreshments will be available. It would be appreciated if you could print and fill in this form Junior Membership 2013 and bring it with the appropriate registration fee on Thursday evening.
The registration fee for 6-15 year old for the 2013 season is set at £30 for the first child and £15 for each additional child thereafter. There will also be a £1 charge per evening which will be collected by the respective coaches from the young people at the beginning of the session.
