Davy Marshall - 3 for 18

Donaghcloney welcomed Templepatrick to the factory ground on Saturday (15th May 2010). The visitors elected to bat but soon found themselves in trouble. Marshall and Stevenson made use of the favourable bowling conditions to reduce the visitors to 14 for 4. Marshall was the main destroyer with 3 for 18 although he had Hanna to thank for his first wicket, somehow holding on to a full blooded drive at short leg only 2 yards from the bat.

Busby and Jackson started to re-build the innings for Templepatrick but the introduction of McClure and Hanna stifled the scoring rate and the pressure began to build on the visitors. An inspired bowling change, just before the drinks interval, broke the partnership with Fisher removing Jackson’s off stump leaving Templepatrick wallowing at 58 for 5 after 25 overs. With this partnership broken the Cloney bowlers removed the remaining batsmen with ease; with Timmy McClure taking 3 for 18 and Willie Fisher 2 for 11 to restrict Templepatrick to a meagre 75.

Cloney skipper, Keith Martin, took the responsibility of opening the innings in the absence of a few regulars and he and Hanna started cautiously in their reply. They had added 20 when Hanna unluckily played onto his stumps. This brought Keith’s younger brother Allen to the crease and the two brothers easily surpassed the visitors score in the 18th over with some excellent batting, Keith finishing with 30 not out.

Donacloney would like to thank George Martin for sponsoring Saturday’s matchball. Next week, Donacloney travel to face Carrickfergus II in the 2nd round of the Junior Cup.
