An unbeaten partnership of 80 by Marshall and Stevenson seal the victory over Drumaness
Donaghcloney 1st XI traveled to Drumaness on Saturday 24th May in the hope of getting back in the winners circle. Donaghcloney had a strong team out and everyone hoped the weather would not interrupt the game. As usual skipper Keith Martin lost the toss and was asked to bowl on what looked a damp green track. Drumaness took to the crease and openers N Geltson and J Cunningham batted really well. They punished any wayward deliveries and showed great patience until Steven Hanna fooled Cunningham into a false shot and had him caught and bowled in the 15 over with the score on 55. Hanna again bowled well and ended up with figures of 2-19 of his 10. Gary Knox who has strained a thigh muscle while fielding in the second over of the game hobbled on throughout the 50 overs in the field and when asked to bowl didn’t need to asked twice. even though he was clearly in some real discomfort he bowled his 10 overs 2-35. star of the bowling attack was Mansing who bowled his medium pace for the first time in a Donaghcloney jersey. He bowled straight and accurately and was rewarded with figures of 5-19 of 6 overs. N Geltson was the anchor of the Drumaness innings batting superbly for his 94 before Mansing pushed one through the gate and took his off stump. Stevie Hanna gets another 5 wicket haul
On Saturday 17th May Donaghcloney 1st XI traveled to Seapark Oval to face BISC. The Indians were 2 from 2 and Donaghcloney were trying to get back to winning ways after defeat to Academy. BISC won the toss and chose to bat first on what looked like a very good batting track. However things didn’t go to plan for BISC when the in form Steven Hanna broke the opening partnership. He had opener Vinoth caught behind and soon after Ismail fell the same way giving the skipper Martin his 2nd victim of the day. Hanna went on to get a five wickets for only 16 runs from his 10 overs. While Hanna was toiling away, Gary Knox was proving even more frugal at the other end. Knox bowled accurately and ended up with figures of 2 for 13 in his 10 overs. BISC were reduced 81 for 8 in the 35 over and Donaghcloney were looking totally dominant. read more…
Great Win for Under 15’s in Graham Cup
The Under 15’s defeated Templepatrick Under 15’s last night by 5 wickets. This is a great start to the season as Templepatrick are seen as one of the better teams. Donaghcloney bowled first and Jack Montgomery was the star of the attack. He took 5 for 14 of his 4 overs while Jobin Joy who is playing for the first XI today bowled his 4 overs for 2 for 12. Having been set 79 to win of the 20 overs Templepatrick claimed a few early wickets but it was a match winning stand between David Houston (who had been excellent in the filed all night) and young Ben Thompson that eventually won Donaghcloney the game. Houston got 18 while Thompson guided the home team to victory finishing unbeaten on 28. A great win for the boys and hopefully the stepping stone to a successful year in 2014.

Donaghcloney first XI traveled to the picturesque Castle Grounds to play Academy in upbeat and confident form following last weeks demolition of Cooke Collegians. The ranks had been further strengthened with two imports from Millpark. The irrepressible Charlie McCrum is a welcome addition to any cricket team with his wealth of experience. Keith Dempster hails from the north of England but has been living in Northern Ireland for the last number of years. Both players are more than welcome to Donaghcloney and we would like to wish them every success this season.

Having lost the toss Donaghcloney were asked to bat and got off to a flying start with 5 from the first ball! However it wasn’t long before W Mohammand found his accuracy and Colin Hylands lost off stump in the 4th over with the scores on 14. It was the start of an impressive spell from Mohammand who ended up with 4 wickets for 31 runs from his 10 overs. His other victims included Alan Harland who failed to trouble the scorers, Gary Knox who was adjudged leg before while not offering a shot and Matthew Lyttle clipped an feisty 17 in the dying overs of the game. read more…
The 2014 season got of to a great start with wins for both the 1st XI and 2nd XI. At the Factory Ground Donaghcloney hosted Cooke Collegians. Having been relegated last year the club have high expectations and are keen to return to Section next year. It was therefore necessary to get the season off to a good start. Early in the week the threat of rain over the weekend faded and the Factory Ground looked great in the April sunshine.

At this point we have to thank all those who have given up hours of their personal time to get the ground fit for purpose. Special thanks as always go to Steven Hanna who tends to point us all in the right direction. Stephen, Matthew and Richard Lyttle have been great in setting up nets, getting the covers sorted and generally tidying the place up. Raymie Matthews and Phil Derby have shared the load on the 135 in getting the outfield into shape. Dessie Martin and Timmy McClure have been on hand, getting their hands dirty and helping out where needed. Willie Fisher and Alan Harland helped with all the advertising boards and cleaning up the pavilion. It’s great to see so many make an effort no matter how small. Without everyone chipping in the club just couldn’t function to the level it does, so a big thank you to you all. read more…
