31 not out for the in form Colin Martin

It was another solid display by Donaghcloney 1st XI on Wednesday night against Dunmurry. Traveling away midweek is never easy but a strong side turned up to take on a struggling Dunmurry team. Dunmurry won the toss and elected to bat on a poor wicket and a very slow outfield. Credit must go to the bowlers who bowled very well throughout but for once the fielding let Donaghcloney down. A total of 6 catches were dropped more than the rest of the season put together which allowed Dunmurry to reach 71. The wickets were shared between amongst the bowlers with Steven Hanna figures of 4 overs 2 for 7 being the standout.

Lyness Topping and Steven Hanna opened the innings and runs proved hard to come by. Hanna was out early caught in at deep long off but Topping and Colin Martin put together a 33 run partnership which essentially won Donaghcloney the game. Topping was eventually out for 18 while David Marshal(5) and Colin Martin (31) won the game with 3 overs to spare. Skipper Keith Martin said “In the 20 over format you can win and lose a game so quickly. I thought we made it difficult for ourselves by dropping so many chances and Dunmurry probably scored 20 more runs than they should have. Its great to see my brother hit a bit of form with  the bat and he brought home another vital win for us”
