The consisted of a mixture of youth and experience with old hand Paul Lyttle captaining the side. Paul won the toss and elected to bat on what was a good track. His batsmen didn’t let him down amassing an impressive 146 runs in the 20 overs. It was the younger members of the team that were successful with the bat and posted a great total. Ryan Cobb scored 34, Jonny Gregson hit an impressive 29 while young Rory Woods had his eye in from the start and eased his way to 44 before being caught out. The scoreboard never stopped ticking over and there was plenty of good running between the wickets and the bad ball was sent towards the boundary.
With 146 to get Victoria were up against from the start. Needing over 7 runs an over the bowling from Timmy Savage , Rory Woods and Jonny Gregson was tight and kept the visitors well under the required run rate. Scott Armstrong who was carrying a slight knock kept wicket and showed some real talent taking a stumping and a catch behind the wicket. It was however the old who timer Paul Lyttle who stole the show with his bowling. Rolling back the years Paul bowled accurately and took 5 for 27. Paul said “It’s been a long time since I took a wicket for Donaghcloney never mind a 5 for but I enjoyed every minute of it. Its great to see the youngsters from both Donaghcloney and Victoria enjoying their cricket and it bodes well for our 3 rd XI team next year.” The 3rd XI hope to have a rematch against Victoria this week.
